Pretty True… although I don’t know about the jacking off in running shorts or blue jeans part
This is a blog about long distance running, training, trails, trials, and tribulations.
Please feel free to submit questions, playlists, ideas or comments. My goal is to make this blog a depot for tips and trade secrets, as well as a motivation and encouragement. Thanks for visiting and happy running!
"Every morning in Africa, a gazelle wakes up. It knows it must outrun the fastest lion or it will be killed. Every morning in Africa, a lion wakes up. It knows it must run faster than the slowest gazelle, or it will starve. It doesn't matter whether you're a lion or gazelle - when the sun comes up, you'd better be running." - Nike Ad derived from an African proverb

Thanks to Katie for the heads up.
I’ve always sort of wished there was something like this that would show people who passed you, Oh, he’s already run 15 miles I just started a block ago, I suppose it’s not that great to pass him. I still probably would buy New Balance, and since my Nike+ was inaccurate and broke I wouldn’t bother buying a new one… since the broken one was free anyways.
You should give your running shoes 24 hours between each use- it takes takes that long after a run for the cushion to get it’s spring back.
(I totally didn’t know that. Did you?)
((Have I mentioned I love having a Running Brand as one of my clients.))
i’ve been running for as long as i can remember, and i have never in my life heard such a thing!! i certainly am guilty of breaking this rule. many many times.
any other runners out there heard of this?
Oh for heaven’s sake. Everytime I turn around it seems that there’s new magical tip that’s supposed to improve your running. Change your shoes after 500 miles, or wait, is it 300 now? Drink water during the race or don’t drink water? Wool or cotton socks to prevent blisters?
I think when it comes down to it, running is a very unique and individual sport. Of course you can run within 24 hours of your previous run. Does it really matter if you have all of the shoe’s cushion back? Probably not. If your feet are hurting, maybe wait a little longer between runs. If not, go for it.
Everyone seems to be looking for the secret to how to run further, faster, better, and in truth, it’s different for each individual. Tweak your training, equipment, and routine to what works for you, not what seems to be the current word on the street.
People will talk about sports they participated in and say something like, well I was on the (whichever sport) team and my coach made us run a ton. I like running.
Then I think, I was on the Cross Country and Track teams, that’s ALL we did…
It’s like the cheesy T-shirt says: My sport is your sport’s punishment.

From last week’s 60 minutes feature to Vibram ads everywhere, barefoot running is in the spotlight.
While I’m not quite yet a complete convert, barefoot striders are a great way to strengthen your feet and legs while concentrating on form and technique.

The Long Green Line is a cross country coach’s guide to success. The workouts in there will still produce champions twenty years from now. Amazing.
It was hinted at back in September 2009, now it appears certain that Nike will deliver a Nike+ heart rate monitor iPod accessory to the US on June 1st. The following Nike forum post by a long-time contributor and a suspected Nike employee has set heart valves aflutter:
“I have a U.S. launch date for the Nike+ compatible heart rate monitor. It will officially launch on June 1, 2010, although it may reach some retail outlets slightly sooner. It will reach Canadian markets in June and will launch internationally in summer 2010, exact date to be determined.”

Once all but ignored, running technique is now the topic of countless magazine and website articles, is taught by a growing number of running coaches, and is intensively discussed on Internet chat forums and actual training runs.
Underlying all of this discussion is a gradually spreading consensus that running technique can in fact be effectively taught—that there is an identifiable correct way to run that every runner can learn and use to run faster and with fewer injuries. This belief represents quite a departure from the old-school view of running technique from past decades. It held that good running technique was something you were either born with or not, and that the only way to improve running technique was to simply run and let the process happen naturally.

Beer Miles - Do alcohol and training mix?
Interesting article from Running Times about running and drinking - http://runningtimes.com/Article.aspx?ArticleID=17951
In the end, it would seem that alcohol and training doesn’t mix. Alcohol indeed falls into one of those choices you’re better to go without when it comes to training. And large amounts of alcohol or binge drinking, especially in the post-run phase, is never advantageous. A key point to remember is that if you do drink post-workout, make sure you eat plenty of snacks.
Questions? Comments? Have you found that drinking before a big workout of race is helpful or harmful?

Rules of the road.
The indoor track at school had this reversed, one of the walkers yelled at me once for running on the inside lane. In retrospect I should have told them to get real, rather than just pass them. Slower traffic to the right.
